Black Friday frenzy hits West Michigan cannabis shops

KALAMAZOO, Mich. —

A line of people wrapped around the Levels Cannabis parking lot on West KL Avenue in Kalamazoo, hoping to cash in on some Black Friday deals.

One such deal was a goodie bag worth $200, according to Levels’ general manager Drew McCarthy.

However, customers would have to spend $100 to get double their money’s worth of product.

“Black Friday is a big stressful day, after a big stressful day,” McCarthy said. “So, we wanted to give back to people and be able to have them not just take back the product they bought, but something extra to go and share with people around them and kind of go and promote that holiday spirit.”

One customer, Brian Bohn, said he drove all the way from Chicago and stood in line for almost two hours.

“But I think I’m 101,” Bohn said.

Others like Juan Armstrong got to the shop at 7:30 a.m. Friday, and walked away with the goods.

“Oh yeah, it’s going to be worth it,” Armstrong said.

Deal or no deal, though, McCarthy said the enthusiasm from customers was energizing.

“Everyone’s being so kind and polite to each other,” McCarthy said. “Like I know it’s just the day after Thanksgiving, but it’s already the holiday season, and like the spirit is out there.”

According to McCarthy, the line at their Niles location started forming around 10 p.m. Thursday.

He said they had more deals for people who missed out on the goodie bag.
